민들레와 고양이 Dandelions and Cats

민들레는 어쩌면 가장 많이 밟히는 꽃일 거예요.

밟히고 밟히다 보니 키가 작아진 것일지도 모릅니다.

저희 집 작은 정원은 봄이면 민들레 밭이 되는데 몇 년 동안 밟지 않고 보호해주니 키가 어른 무릎 높이를 넘기게 크더군요.

노란 서양민들레가 아닌 우리 토종 흰민들레가 그렇게 키가 쑥쑥 자랐습니다.

밟히고 밟혀도 땅속에서 뿌리를 굳건히 지키고 있다가 봄이 찾아오면 어김없이 꽃을 피워내는 민들레가 참 대견합니다.

고양이는 도시에서 가장 약한 생명체 일 수도 있겠다는 생각을 합니다.먹이를 구하기도 쉽지 않은데 도처에 위험요소가 참 많아요.

로드킬의 위험을 주는 자동차와 오토바이뿐 아니라 지저분하다고, 시끄럽게 군다고, 힘이 약한 동물이라 괴롭히기 쉬워서…

고양이를 학대하고 생명을 빼앗는 사람들까지 있기 때문이에요.

사람과 상대하면 절대 약자인 생명체이기에 약자에게 분풀이를 하고 괴롭히는 사람들의 타깃이 되기 쉬운 게 고양이죠.

그래도 고양이들은 꿋꿋이 하루하루를 버텨내며 살아주고 있어요. 고양이를 못살게 구는 사람들이 있지만 지키고 아껴주는 사람들도 많기 때문이겠죠.

잡초의 처지도 민들레나 고양이와 비슷합니다. 보이면 뽑아버리고 다시 열심히 싹을 틔우면 자르거나 또 뽑히죠.

다른 이름있는 풀, 꽃들과는 대우가 다릅니다. 그래도 지치지 않고 강한 생명력을 보여주는 게 잡초죠.

이렇게 귀한 대접을 못 받는 자리에 있는 것들, 연약해 보이는 것들은 제 관심을 끕니다.약해 보이지만 그냥 약하지만은 않아서 일 거에요.

Dandelions may be the most frequently trampled flowers. Perhaps they've grown shorter from being repeatedly stepped on.

Our small garden turns into a field of dandelions each spring, and after protecting them for several years without trampling them,

they have grown tall, surpassing the height of an adult's knee.

Not the yellow dandelions from the West, but our native white dandelions have grown so tall.

It's truly admirable how dandelions, despite being trampled over and over, firmly maintain their roots underground and bloom faithfully each spring.

Cats, I believe, might be the most vulnerable creatures in the city. Finding food is not easy for them, and they face numerous dangers everywhere.

Not only are there cars and motorcycles posing the risk of roadkill, but some people find them dirty, noisy, or weak enough to be easy targets for abuse.

There are even those who abuse and kill them.

Cats, being absolutely vulnerable when faced with humans, often become targets for those who take out their frustrations on and torment the weak.

Yet, cats persist, enduring each day with resilience.

This is likely because, despite the people who mistreat them, there are also many who protect and cherish them.

Weeds share a similar fate with dandelions and cats.

They're pulled out whenever spotted, and even if they sprout again with effort, they're cut or uprooted once more.

They receive different treatment compared to other named plants and flowers. Yet, weeds demonstrate an undying, robust vitality.

These beings, which don't receive much appreciation, and those that seem delicate, capture my attention.

Perhaps it's because they appear weak but are not merely fragile.
